Less than 10 minutes away: Crespià and Esponellà


Crespià Spring Trail

This is a short trail that follows the Merler stream in Crespià, crossing it several times and passing by two springs: Font Vella and Fontica, although the water is not drinkable.

It’s an ideal route for families. With an easy level of difficulty, the path is only one kilometre long and can be completed in about 20 minutes without stops. However, it's perfect to enjoy at a relaxed pace, and there are picnic areas at both springs where you can take a break.

Esponellà Castle

Esponellà Castle is located on a hill 196 meters high, to the west of the village center, offering wide panoramic views over Esponellà and the Fluvià River.

Although the excavation and restoration of the castle are still ongoing, it is possible to access the area and enjoy the magnificent views from this historic site.

Salt de Martís

Also known as the Saltant Gros d’Espolla, the Salt de Martís features a viewpoint and a short walking trail. The water continues to flow gently downstream, forming small natural pools, such as Gorg dels Gossos and Gorg de les Anguiles.

Route of the Wetlands of La Puda and Les Estunes

A walking route to discover the natural surroundings southwest of Banyoles Lake. The itinerary passes through the "Llacunes de les Cigonyes" (Stork Lagoons), the magical cracks of Les Estunes—where legend says water fairies (aloges) live—and a wild wetland area. It also includes a visit to the Font Pudosa (Sulphurous Spring) and the old spa, a reminder of 19th-century life. There is a picnic area in Les Estunes.

Prehistoric Caves Park

La Fageda d’en Jordà

A magical beech forest growing over an ancient lava flow from the Croscat volcano, located within the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa. Situated between Santa Pau, Olot, and Les Preses, it is one of the 28 nature reserves in the park and an emblematic site that inspired the poet Joan Maragall.

Croscat Volcano

Croscat is the volcano with the largest cone on the Iberian Peninsula (160 m). It stands out for its “grederes” (fissures), a spectacular cut visible from Route 15, which is easy and well-signposted.
